Búðarhamar, is one of the distinctive early 20th century houses in Eyrarbakki. It was built by a well to do entrepreneur Andrés Jónsson in 1916 to accommodate his family as well as the general store he opened on the ground floor.

A man with a keen view on the future, Andrés had his new house wirered for electrical power not yet available in Eyrabakki. This didn´t stop our man who one day hauled a machine from his boat and lit his new castle up under the thundering beat of the motor. The first illuminated house in Eyrarbakki was a now a fact and people traveled to see the wonder.
